Integrate Nature into Your Practice

What is Nature Informed Therapy?

Nature Informed Therapy (NIT) is an evidence-based, data-driven therapeutic approach that integrates the restorative power of the natural environment with established psychological treatments. Leveraging empirical research to validate its efficacy, NIT aims to heal mental health issues by reconnecting individuals with nature through methods like 'walk and talk' therapy, nature-based mindfulness, and horticultural activities. By blending the healing properties of the natural world with proven modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), NIT addresses a wide range of mental health concerns, promoting overall well-being, life satisfaction, and a harmonious relationship with the environment.

Office Location

The Center for Nature Informed Therapy is situated on ancestral land that has served as a communal space for seasonal hunting, trapping, and trade for countless generations.  Indigenous Peoples residing along the Chesapeake Bay and Susquehanna River, predominantly from Algonquin tribes such as the Piscataway people to the south and various Iroquoian-speaking groups, notably the Susquehannock tribe, to the north, have historically utilized this area.  Today, the Baltimore area remains the home of the descendants of these tribes.  Additionally, it is inhabited by several thousand members of the Lumbee and Cherokee tribes.  This dynamic cultural tapestry underscores the rich history and diverse heritage of the community.  We recognize the distressing and brutal history of coerced relocation endured by Indigenous Peoples due to the actions of white colonists.  We commit to honoring the heritage of preceding Indigenous generations through our initiatives.
